Movie Review: Harry Potter – Deathly Hallows II

An entertaining finale to an epic tale, Death Hallows 2 ends the Harry Potter series with a thrilling and emotional send off.

Harry continues his quest to get rid of the remaining horcruxes, eventually leading him back to Hogwarts. There he finds Snape as headmaster, upholding Voldemort’s fascist ideologies. The Dark Lord raids hogwarts to finally get rid of the problem that he unintentionally created, and spark a battle that will decide the fate of the wizarding world.

The movie ran in a pretty tight ship – the plot was great, the acting was superb, and the effects were stunning. There’s plenty of magical action. The acting from the young and adult actors brought emotional weight to the story, heightened by the war torn backdrop and suspense.

All the adult actors were amazing. Daniel Radcliffe was convincing as the mature Harry Potter, Emma Watson was less flinty as the smart loyal Hermione, and Rupert Grint lightened things up a bit as Ron.

As expected there were changes made from the book.  Dumbledore’s past was skipped over. The ending was anticlimactic. Casual moviegoers who have not yet read the book may feel lost or that the movie was rushed. But then it wasn’t made for them. Its for the fans who had been loyal to Harry as his friends were, and most likely went through a roller coaster of emotions throughout the film.

My Rating: 8/10
