The Machinist is a well-acted but generic and predictable tale that resembles an overstretched episode from the Twilight Zone.

The Machinist is a gloomy psychological thriller that pulls you into the story. Christian Bale’s physical transformation is both sickening and intriguing.

However as the story unravels, the film’s interesting desaturated aesthetic becomes a dull sheen because of a generic and predictable plot. The film drags on halfway, emphasizing clues that are obvious from the get-go.

Bale gives a great performance, but it’s wasted on a forgettable story with tricks that you’ve already seen before.
